Making a New World
(Krenek Symphony 1)
_j.jpg)
Ernst Krenek's first symphony (1921), like Paul Nash's painting We Are Making a New World (1918), conveys to me the unnatural rampancy of technological civilization—a destructive force so sweeping it is indistinguishable from new creation. I imagine the same force, in the future, working its way through other planets, moons and asteroids.
