A new series of paintings exploring the idea of the 'classical' in art, which I understand as a special kind of balance.
Balance in tension. For every description you can think to apply to these pictures, I think the opposite also applies: bright/dark, strong/weak, stable/teetering, quiet/loud, hard/soft, smooth/rough, jarring/harmonious, solid/fluid, cool/warm, shallow/deep, rigid/flimsy, objective/abstract, bold/tentative, tight/loose, artificial/organic, active/static etc. etc.
We see, think and feel only contrast, but in art we can try to make it balance, which is something I took from listening to Beethoven. The more contrast balanced, the more interesting the balance.
